Job Description
Position Purpose 

The Product Manager, in collaboration with the Identifier Team, will be responsible for developing the business plan and operating model for the emerging ISO standard ISNI (International Standard Name Identifier) as well as the manage and grow the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) business for Bowker’s Identifier Services business. The Product Manager will be responsible for uncovering business opportunities and developing full business plans for each identifier. Additionally, once the business plans are developed and approved, the position requires product planning and execution throughout the lifecycle of any ISNI/DOI related offerings, including: gathering and prioritizing product, service, and customer requirements, defining the product/service vision, and working closely with IT, sales, marketing and customer care to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction goals are met. The Product Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that the product/business supports the company’s overall strategy and goals.

The Product Manager is expected to:
1. Define the product business strategy and roadmap
2. Deliver MRDs and PRDs with prioritized features and corresponding justification
3. Work with external third parties to assess partnership opportunities
4. Run beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples
5. Be an expert with respect to the standard industry
6. Act as a leader within the company

Required Skills
Knowledge and Abilities

1. Excellent communication skills. Ability to interact with customers and stakeholders, both internal and external, to understand their needs and translate those needs into product requirements and new product or service ideas
2. Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to track multiple projects and lead them through the development life cycle.
3. Working knowledge of the publishing industry particularly the book industry supply chain
4. Technical background with ability to manage B2B and B2C web sites, widgets, and tools
5. Familiarity with web user experience current best practices
6. Ability to communicate effectively with all facets of an organization including IT, marketing, sales, customers and management so that they understand their role in the delivery of the product
7. 3-5 years experience as a product manager, preferably with a publisher or data provider
8. Successful experience developing and managing a product through all of the product development life cycle:
a) Customer Interface
b) Market Analysis / Product Definition
c) Business requirements
d) Project Planning
e) Communication and Business Project Leadership
f) Testing
g) Training
h) Marketing
i) Launch / Implementation Approach
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
10. Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred)
11. Excellent teamwork skills
12. Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority
